Scenic describes Scenic Gem as custom-built for the Seine and designed for up to 124 guests. Among the ship capacities we have verified for the six operators we compare, only MS Loire Princesse is smaller. That figure is a design maximum rather than a guaranteed headcount, so a given sailing may carry fewer.5

Where two lines are genuinely close on a French river, and on the Seine and at Bordeaux several of them are, we say they are close rather than manufacturing a winner.
The order that works, in our experience, is: pick the river, decide how you want the day ashore arranged, then normalise two fares against the same list of inclusions before you look at either headline number. Availability in the month you can travel usually makes the final call anyway.
